The HSBC offices in Sheffield city centre were vandalised with red paint and windows were smashed

Offices in Sheffield city centre have been vandalised, with windows smashed and messages sprayed in red paint.

Police confirmed they received reports of the "criminal damage" to the HSBC site at Grosvenor House building on Wellington Street at 02:13 GMT on Monday.

Photos shared on social media also show the words 'Free Palestine' and 'Drop Elbit' painted across the entrance to the building. Elbit appeared to be a reference to Israeli-founded Elbit Systems UK, based in Bristol, which also sells military equipment to the UK armed forces.

Police said, "a group of people wearing face coverings" vandalised the building before "leaving on foot in the direction of Pound's Park".

A HSBC UK spokesperson said: "Criminal acts against our offices and branches threaten the safety of our colleagues, customers, and our ability to serve the community, including some of the most vulnerable people who rely on our network.

"Safety is our priority, and we are actively assisting law enforcement to ensure accountability for these attacks."

Last month, a similar incident happened at a HSBC branch in Norwich.

Police asked anyone with information to get in touch.
