Fire crews were called to the Imperial Hotel in Hove on Tuesday

A hotel fire was caused accidentally by an extractor fan, the fire service says.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) said crews responded to reports of a fire at the Imperial Hotel, in First Avenue in Hove, at about 15:10 GMT on Tuesday.

The hotel was evacuated and no injuries were reported. Six firefighters used breathing apparatus to tackle the fire.

ESFRS said an investigation concluded "the cause of the fire was accidental due to a fault with an extractor fan".
