A charity is recruiting volunteers and seeking donations of tea, biscuits and jigsaws after receiving funding to expand its "memory cafe".

Head2Head Sensory Theatre said it would use council funding to run events in Oxted, Surrey, after they proved popular at its site near South Godstone.

The charity, which started off as a theatre group for young people with disabilities, said the memory cafe was a "safe and social place for people with memory loss".

Its chief executive, Anni Rhodes-Steere, told the BBC there were "lots of things we need" and asked anybody who was interested in helping to get in touch.

Rhodes-Steere said the events were run by volunteers with "lived experience but no professional training" with support from dementia charities.

Head2Head was one of 16 organisations to receive grants from a Tandridge District Council fund generated from a local lottery.

The council's community services committee chair, Deb Shiner, said the money enabled community projects to provide a wide range of support to residents who needed it most.

Rhodes-Steere said the funding would make a "huge difference, as does every penny that we receive".
