Plans are in the pipeline to expand Derby College in an effort to meet growing demand for construction and trade courses.

The college has submitted an application to build a two-storey extension to the Hudson Building at its Pride Park campus.

The site, which is used to teach trades including brickwork, joinery and plumbing, has capacity for 300 students at any one time.

Planning documents submitted to Derby City Council said the project would allow the college to increase the number of students by about 75 to 100.

A planning statement said the current building has been "struggling with increasing numbers", and it was in "desperate need of extension".

If approved, the project will provide additional teaching and workshop space and would mirror the design and layout of the existing building.
