Man admits killing fellow prisoner in attack
PA MediaA man has admitted killing a man who died following an assault at a prison in Leicestershire.
Damien Ward, 36, pleaded guilty to the manslaughter of Dennis Green, 42, at HMP Fosse Way.
Green suffered a serious head injury in the attack on 6 August 2025, and died in hospital 15 days later.
Ward had been charged with murder, but prosecutors accepted his plea at Leicester Crown Court on Friday. He will be sentenced at the same court on 6 March.
Det Insp Lorna Granville, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: "Mr Green was subjected to a very serious attack, which ultimately led to his death in hospital.
"I am pleased Ward has taken responsibility for this offence and in doing so has spared Mr Green's family the additional distress of a trial."
HMP Fosse Way is a Category C resettlement prison, which opened in 2023 and is operated by Serco.
