A young people's charity in Stoke-on-Trent has announced its new chief executive.

Nicky Twemlow will take the reins at YMCA North Staffordshire on 1 April following the departure of current CEO Daniel Flynn.

She has worked at the organisation for 19 years and the charity said she would play a leading role in ensuring it continued to provide support for young people in need across the area.

Twemlow said it was a "real privilege" to take on the job and she was excited for what came next for the charity.

"I care deeply about this city and the young people who call it home and I am committed to making sure they feel supported, valued and full of hope for their future," she added.

Flynn announced his intention to stand down in December, confirming he would retire on 31 March after 23 years in the role to become his wife's primary carer.

His tenure saw the unveiling of the charity's £6m youth hub, which included 46 one-bedroom apartments for young people, situated next to the existing campus in Hanley.

Flynn said his time in the role was the "greatest privilege" of his working life, adding: "Together, we have achieved transformational change and built something truly special for this community."
