Pedestrian dies after being hit by car

A man has died after he was hit by a car in a city street.

Emergency services were called to North Street, Downend, near Bristol just before 16:30 GMT on Monday after the man aged in his 70s was struck by a blue Citroen DS3.

Avon and Somerset Police said the man, who was not yet been formally identified, died at the scene and his next of kin had been informed.

The force said officers spoke with the driver and no arrests were made.

Anyone who witnessed the crash, or with dashcam or any other footage are urged to contact police.

The road was closed for several hours while recovery work and investigations at the scene took place, but reopened at 12:30 GMT on Tuesday.
