First tractor run aims to raise funds for hospice

Jersey's first tractor run will see 50 entrants travelling around the island, covering more than 30 miles (48.3km) and 10 of the island's 12 parishes, organisers have said.

The sold out event, which runs from about 16:30 to 18:50 GMT, is raising funds for Jersey Hospice.

Organisers said tractors and their drivers would be judged before departing and spectators were welcome to view the tractors.

John Deans, one of the organisers, said: "We have been thinking about doing this for a few years and have finally got it off the ground."

He said he hoped it would become an annual event.

The event will start at Grand Vaux at about 16:30, before vehicles travel to Five Oaks Roundabout, Maufant, St Martin's Public Hall, Gorey Pier, Longbeach Car Park, Top of Grouville Hill, Miladi Farm, Georgetown, Bel Royal Kiosk, St Aubin Parish Hall, Les Quennevais Precinct, Bethlehem Chapel, St John's Church and finishing at Trinity Parish Hall at about 18:50.

Peter Barette, another organiser, said: "We apologise for any delays that may be caused and would ask motorists to be patient."

Andy Bisson, centenier from St John and in charge of honorary police for the event, said: "It's a new event raising money for such a good cause.

"There will be six police vehicles and... officers giving up their time and helping the event travel around the island."
