Man arrested after passenger dies in car crash
GoogleA car passenger has died in a two-vehicle crash in a village in Surrey, police say.
Surrey Police is appealing for information about the crash, involving a white BMW and a grey Land Rover Freelander, that happened on the A246 Guildford Road in Effingham at about 22:30 BST on Wednesday.
The passenger in the BMW died at the scene and the drivers of both cars were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The driver of the BMW was arrested on suspicion of causing death and serious injury by dangerous driving and would be taken into custody once was he was treated for his injuries, police said.
On Thursday morning, Surrey Police said the road was still blocked in both directions at the junctions with The Street and Calvert Road.
Road closures were likely to remain in place for some time, police added.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage which could help police is asked to contact the force.
