Police shut Mansfield Road in Heanor into the night after the collision

A driver has been arrested after a cyclist suffered life-threatening head injuries in a crash in Heanor.

A pushbike and a car collided in Mansfield Road, at the junction with Watson Avenue, on Friday evening.

The cyclist, a 57-year-old man, suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham, where Derbyshire Police said he remains in a "serious but stable condition".

The driver of the car, a 30-year-old man, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury through dangerous driving and has been released on bail pending further inquiries.

Mansfield Road was closed into Saturday morning but has since reopened.
