A Grade I-listed manor house which has been closed for almost two years due to flood damage will reopen this weekend.

Avebury Manor, in the Wiltshire village of Avebury, was badly damaged on 5 January 2024 after storms caused flooding, with water more than one metre (3.2ft) deep.

The National Trust 16th Century property will be open to the public on Saturday as staff begin the run-up to Christmas.

Amelia Bryan, house manager said: "The flood was a huge shock to everyone, but we're so looking forward to welcome visitors back again."

The manor will be decorated with handmade creations from volunteers, as well as trees, lights and music throughout.

"Coming to see the decorations at Avebury Manor is a real tradition for visitors, and we can't wait to see them enjoying the display and the house again," said Ms Bryan.

Visitors can view the decorations daily from 11:00 to 16:00 GMT until Sunday 4 January.

The house will then be temporarily closed again to allow the Christmas display to be removed and some final restoration work to be completed.

Specialist contractors have been working with staff to repair and restore the building, with some furniture and items previously on display still being monitored and restored off-site.

Jan Tomlin, general manager, said: "The team have been working incredibly hard to get things ready for another Christmas celebration in the manor.

"There are a few repairs and renovations to be completed, but I'm so pleased that we're now able to welcome people back again."

Avebury Manor is due to fully reopen in the spring.
