A man has gone viral for celebrating Everton's 3–0 win over Chelsea at Hill Dickinson stadium with a toaster and packet of crumpets.

Matty Byrne, now dubbed "Toaster Man" was spotted cheering with the boxed electrical appliance, which he said was a wedding gift for friends along with the crumpets to go with it.

"I was going to a wedding that night," he said. "I didn't want to leave it in the boozer, so I decided just walk in with it."

Every time the Blues scored, the toaster was tossed into the air and surrounding fans wanted to join in.

"Someone asked me to just throw it to him, so I threw it," Matty said. "The next thing it was halfway round the stadium.

"It come back to me though."

After the game, fellow Everton fans took to social media to describe Matty as a "legend".

While some considered the toaster as a "lucky charm", others questioned how he was able to get through security.

"Done it now ain't he, that's coming to every game," one fan said.

"How he do that? Ya can't get a water bottle in the stadium," said another.

'Famous toaster'

Matty said he only became aware his unique celebration had become viral the next day when he woke up to "loads and loads of messages".

He joked that his friends were now in possession of a "famous toaster" and confirmed that it was in safe hands.

"It's still in its box," he said. "They're not going to use it, I don't think."

Matty said he hoped he would be able to bring it with him again for the derby match when Everton took on Liverpool at home on 19 April.

And it is not the first time Everton fans have found unusual ways to honour their team.

Her owners had become caught up in the melee welcoming the players' coach outside Goodison Park while taking her for a walk.

Her owners picked her up, and carried her above their heads through the crowd who cheered and clapped.
