City centre upgrades make Hull more 'inviting'

Improvement work on the oldest street in Hull has been completed.

A new crossing and footpaths have been installed in High Street, while work is also being carried out on Humber Dock Street.

The development is part of a wider project aiming to make the city centre more accessible.

Hull City Council cabinet member Mark Ieronimo said the improvements were "a significant step in creating a city centre that's better connected, easier to move through and more inviting".

The work has been paid for by National Highways and the city council, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The High Street work was designed to improve pedestrian access between the Old Town and Fruit Market areas.

An information panel highlighting the history of the area has also been installed.

Work to create new green spaces, seating and footpaths along Humber Dock Street also forms part of the scheme and is due to be completed in October.

In February, businesses in the area voiced concern about the impact of construction work on their summer trade.
