Jail for fly-tipper over country lane rubbish dump

A man has been jailed after illegally dumping waste in Derbyshire.

Dwayne Simpson had denied three offences of dumping rubbish in Eckington in March 2024, and not having the right documentation to carry waste.

But Simpson, of Moor Crescent in Mosborough, Sheffield, was found guilty at a trial earlier this year at Northern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court in Chesterfield.

And this month, the 22-year-old was handed a jail sentence of 13 weeks.

Simpson was also ordered to pay costs of £4,409.21, and compensation of £140 to two people who paid for him to take waste from their homes.

North East Derbyshire District Council said Simpson, who had advertised his waste disposal service over social media, had been seen by a member of the public fly-tipping in Gashouse Lane.

His vehicle's registration plate and evidence from the rubbish in the lane led the council to Simpson.

Councillor for environmental services Stephen Pickering said the case would hopefully send a clear message that the council "will not tolerate illegal waste activity".

He said: "Rogue operators who ignore the law and blight our communities will be investigated and prosecuted."
