A pigeon who had an eventful visit to the pub had to be saved by firefighters after getting stuck in an air vent.

Wildlife experts were told about the bird by a member of the public who spotted the animal stuck in grating on the outside of the Bell Foundry pub in Swan Street, Loughborough, Leicestershire, on Sunday.

Linjoy Wildlife Sanctuary and Rescue, based in Burton-upon-Trent in Staffordshire, sent a volunteer to Loughborough, who found that the bird's leg was trapped.

The charity worker called the local fire station, which sent a crew to help free the bird.

A spokesperson from the charity said the pigeon was now recovering well after being given medication.

It will have its leg amputated on Wednesday due to the severity of its injuries, but has been hopping along well already, the charity said.
