Two people have been arrested after a property search sparked an emergency evacuation.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary were investigating reports of malicious communications of a sexual nature at an address on Cockleton Lane in Gurnard on the Isle of Wight at 19:44 GMT on Monday.

Officers said they found a number of suspicious objects and evacuated nearby properties as a precaution, but no explosives were present.

A 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of sending communications of an indecent or offensive nature. In addition, he and a 58-year-old man were both arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon in a private place, and possessing an explosive substance for an unlawful purpose.

The pair remain in police custody and officers from the Neighbourhood Policing Team have remained in the area.
