A killer who stamped on and kicked an "entirely innocent man who was simply out walking his dog" has admitted manslaughter.

Gary Carlisle was found seriously injured in March 2025 on Ribbleton Hall Drive, close to Moor Nook School in Preston, and died in hospital a week later, said Lancashire Police.

Witnesses said Jacob Hill, 32, walked away from the scene, leaving the 62-year-old dad lying "in a pool of blood".

Hill, of Ribbleton, will be sentenced at Preston Crown Court on 24 April.

CCTV footage showed Hill leaving his home shortly before 06:00 GMT on 12 March, walking through the estate and "acting erratically, running into the road and blocking the path of a car", police said.

As he got to Langden Drive, he approached Carlisle and there was "an altercation".

Police said Carlisle was chased by Hill who then "dragged him to the ground".

Hill stamped on his victim "more than 10 times" before a bus passenger intervened and was headbutted by Hill, cutting her nose.

Armed officers rushed to the scene and confronted Hill after the attack.

After he refused to comply with officers' orders, he was hit with an electronic stun gun before being arrested, police said.

Carlisle suffered catastrophic head injuries and was found to have died as a result of a blunt force head injury.

Hill was arrested and originally charged with murder.

He admitted manslaughter on Monday.

Det Supt John McNamara said: "This was an absolutely horrendous assault on an entirely innocent man who was simply out walking his dog.

"I would like to commend the brave actions of the bus passenger who bravely tried to stop Hill and was sadly injured in this incident."

"I am pleased that Jacob Hill has admitted his crime, and I hope that the conclusion of these proceedings now allows the family the opportunity to move forward."
