Vandals have damaged a communal cabin on a Merseyside allotment which was burnt to the ground four years ago.

The cabin at Havannah Lane Allotments in St Helens was damaged at some point overnight on Sunday, with one of its windows smashed, paint thrown at the doors and coffee thrown around inside.

The allotments, which opened in 2009 and are looked after by volunteers, allow people to grow fruit and vegetables whilst the communal cabins are a space for people to make a hot drink.

Yvonne Allen, secretary of the allotments, said she "could have cried" after she heard the news and said plot holders would "put their hands in their pockets" to pay for repairs.

"They won't get the better of us, I won't be packing it in and it won't deter us," she said.

Ms Allen, who maintains an allotment on the site, said: "They disregarded everything, it's just wanton vandalism for the sake of it".

She said the cabin was burnt down in 2022, and took "ages to repair".

After receiving the call about the damage, she went down to the site to tidy it up and has reported the incident to police.

Merseyside Police has been approached for comment.
