Police probe after pupil had knife in primary school playground

Police are investigating an incident at an Inverness primary school involving a child with a knife.

In a letter to parents, Ness Castle Primary said there was an incident during break-time and staff "intervened quickly".

It said it was following all relevant guidance and police were supporting the school.

Police Scotland said no-one was injured and its inquiries were ongoing.

A police spokesperson said: "Around 11:50 on Tuesday we received a report of a child in possession of a knife at a school in Inverness.

"There were no injuries.

"Inquiries are ongoing and police are working with partners in relation to the matter."

In its letter, the school said: "At break-time today there was an incident in the school playground involving a pupil with a knife.

"No-one was injured and staff intervened swiftly. Please be assured that we are following all relevant guidance with regards to this incident."
