Wolves' Shi appointed as executive chairman

Wolverhampton Wanderers have appointed Nathan Shi as executive chairman on a permanent basis, the club has confirmed.

He replaced under-fire chairman Jeff Shi in December when the club was winless and bottom of the Premier League on just two points.

Relegation to the Championship was confirmed last month and Shi will continue to lead the club's strategic direction and day-to-day operations "as Wolves prepare for a crucial summer and the 2026/27 season", the club said.

"Our focus now is on strengthening the club, building momentum and creating a team and environment that our supporters can be proud of," Nathan Shi said.

Jeff Shi stood down after almost 10 years at Molineux as fans focussed their anger on him over the team's performances and some viewed him as overseeing a managed decline of the club under Fosun.

Shi - no relation - took over having been working for Fosun since 2016.

He reports directly to the Fosun board, "to provide clarity and consistency at the top of the club at an important moment", the club said.

Shi has spent time working with staff across all areas of the business, and supporters and local communities to better understand the challenges faced and the work required, it added.

"I am honoured to take on this role permanently and fully understand the responsibility it brings, particularly at a time like this for the club," Shi said.

"Since arriving, I have spent time listening, learning and building a clear picture of where we are and what needs to improve.

"That work continues and provides a strong foundation for what comes next."

After relegation was confirmed last month, ending an eight-year stint in the Premier League, the club announced all season-ticket holders will receive "a minimum 25% reduction" in their packages ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
