Illegal rubbish dump 'blitzed' by authorities
Bradford CouncilAn illegal waste disposal business has been "blitzed and eliminated", a local authority has said.
The rubbish dump, strewn with old mattresses, wood and litter, was run from a strip of land on Marley Road in Keighley, and "significant quantities" of waste were also being burned there, said Bradford Council.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed a person living on the site was operating the dump but they had since left, leaving a large quantity of waste behind.
A local authority spokesperson said: "Illegal waste disposal will not be tolerated, and we will take whatever action we can to investigate and prosecute."
The disposal operation was carried out by the council, police and West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The council's Environmental Enforcement Team also worked with the landowner to carry out the clearance and lawful disposal of the waste, which was funded by the landowner.
It also said the "environmental impact" was addressed and the area returned to an "acceptable standard".
