Police have launched an investigation after a string of council vehicles were set on fire at a business park in Dumfries.

The incidents happened near Cargen Tower at the Garroch Business Park between 21:00 and 23:00 on Tuesday.

Four Iveco flatbed vans were set on fire and another one nearby was also damaged. There were no reported injuries.

Dumfries and Galloway Council confirmed that the vehicles were managed by the council, adding that it was supporting Police Scotland with their investigation.

Det Con Christopher Trosh said: "These fires are being treated as wilful and an investigation is under way to establish the full circumstances.

"We are appealing for any witnesses who were near the area at the time and noticed anything suspicious.

"In addition, anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage which may have captured any vehicles coming and going from the area, is asked to contact police."

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it had been called out to the incident in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

It said the fire had been put out and there were no casualties.
