An 83-year-old man has died after his car crashed near Burra in Shetland.

Police were called to the incident which involved a silver Toyota Avensis at Bridge End at about 20:50 on Thursday.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his family have been informed.

The road closed for investigation and reopened at about 17:40 on Friday. Police have urged anyone with information to contact them.

Sgt Neil MacDonald said: "Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this difficult time.

"Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the crash and I would ask anyone who witnessed what happened, or who was travelling in the area at the time and may have dash-cam footage, to contact us."
