A family has paid tribute to a 71-year-old man who was allegedly murdered.

Terry McFadyen was found fatally stabbed at his home in Layer Close in Bowthorpe, Norwich, in the early hours of Monday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Moses Fernandes, 22, who lived at the same address, appeared at Norwich Crown Court on Thursday charged with murder.

"We are totally heartbroken at the sudden loss of Terry McFadyen, a beloved dad, grandad and partner," said the family, in a statement issued by Norfolk Police.

"Dad was a kind, warm and gentle man who would do anything to help others. He was loved by all that knew him.

"Nothing could have prepared us for this tragedy and the grief of losing him so suddenly."

Paramedics had been called to the house after reports that a man was experiencing breathing difficulties - and discovered Mr McFadyen with stab wounds.

Police arrested Mr Fernandes before he was taken to hospital for checks on his breathing.

Norfolk Police has identified Mr Fernandes as a British national.

Still under arrest, he was discharged from hospital on Monday morning and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, before his appearance at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
