Boy, 16, in hospital after suspected stabbing

A 16-year-old boy has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a suspected stabbing at a former skatepark.

The incident took place near the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon at about 11:20 BST, said Wiltshire Police.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and remains in police custody.

Officers are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.

Det Sgt Sarah Munday said: "This was a really concerning incident. A teenage boy is currently in hospital being treated for serious injuries."

She asked anyone who was in the area at about 11:20 to contact the force.

Staff and students at Swindon New College's nearby North Star campus were asked to stay on site "as a temporary safety measure" while emergency services attended the scene.

A spokesperson said: "Within an hour police confirmed that it was safe to resume normal activities.

"As always, our safeguarding and mental health & wellbeing teams are available to all students should they have any concerns."
