States and cafe tenants reach 'amicable' agreement
BBCThe States and the tenants of the Fermain Beach Cafe have come to an "amicable resolution" over the costs of a long-running legal battle.
The States of Guernsey said a court hearing to determine any costs awarded would no longer be necessary.
It comes after the tenants Belmiro de Freitas and Manuela Walter were told they could continue to operate the cafe until 31 October 2028 in accordance with the court's decision on 4 September 2025.
It said this move avoided further costs for either party associated with legal proceedings.
Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, president of the policy and resources committee, said the agreement brings the remaining legal proceedings to a close in a way that was "pragmatic in the circumstances".
"Avoiding any further costs associated with another court hearing is clearly in everyone's best interests," she said.
"While the terms are understandably confidential, we are pleased to have this amicable resolution with Belmiro and Manuela and wish them well over the coming seasons."
