The commercial park would be built on land to the north of Shawbury Road, near Wem, Shropshire

Plans to build a new commercial park to create up to 420 jobs have been approved.

The development, off Shawbury Road on the outskirts of Wem, Shropshire, would create commercial, industrial and warehousing plots alongside a new hauliers yard under the proposals.

A statement with the application, submitted to Shropshire Council by Timothy and Rosemary Rutter, said it would provide a "responsive and flexible" supply of employment land.

They plan to offer a choice of sites to meet the needs of both existing and new businesses, the statement continued, while helping to "rebalance and revitalise Wem".

The plans received 11 objections from residents, which included concerns about increased traffic, the environmental impact from them and the effect on the surrounding infrastructure.

Several comments in support of the application said it would bring economic benefits to the area as well as improve local infrastructure.

Approving the scheme, council planning officers said the development was "acceptable and capable of being planning-policy compliant".
