A racecourse has insisted fixtures will still be going ahead, despite filing paperwork at the High Court indicating an intention to appoint administrators.

Chelmsford City Racecourse said the move by its tenant, Great Leighs Estates Ltd, was part of a "restructuring process" and it was not entering administration.

The venue first opened in April 2008 and now also hosts weddings and music festivals, including one headlined by Justin Timberlake in July.

Documents seen by the BBC showed a notice of intention to appoint administrators was made on 16 February.

"This is a standard legal step that provides a period of protection while restructuring options are progressed," a racecourse spokesman said.

Great Leighs Estates Ltd is a tenant at the racecourse, which is under separate ownership.

The spokesman added all business operations would "continue as normal" while administrators were involved.
