Firefighters have been tackling an incident at a glass factory where molten glass has leaked from a furnace.

Crews from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service were called at 02:16 GMT to an industrial unit on Edinburgh Way in Harlow.

Thirteen crews have been rotating into the building in short bursts due to the intense heat, the fire service has said.

Road closures in Edinburgh Way are in place and the fire service has advised people avoid the area.

Ambulance teams have also been at the scene.

Assistant chief fire officer James Taylor said crews were working "really hard in incredibly difficult conditions" to cool the molten glass.

"We need to continually change crews because the heat is so intense, which is why so many appliances are at the scene," he said.

"We hope to scale this back over the next few hours.

"We are working with the site owners to bring the incident to a conclusion as soon as we can. "
