Harry Potter book sells for £6,000 at auction
Arthur Johnson and SonsAn uncorrected proof edition of a Harry Potter novel has sold for £6,000.
The version of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was described as "very rare" by auctioneers Arthur Johnson and Sons ahead of its sale.
Uncorrected proof editions are commonly printed in small numbers and used by reviewers before a book receives a wider release.
The sold item was brought to the auctioneers for valuation from a house in West Bridgford, and was sold on Saturday.
Before the book was sold, the auction house said it was rarer than usual because it came before Harry Potter author JK Rowling hit the peak of her fame, meaning some of the "disposable" copies were not kept.
Old editions of books from the Harry Potter series have proven valuable buys over the years, with a first edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone selling for £36,000 in November 2024.
Another edition was saved from a bin before fetching £21,000, while one copy that was bought for 13p ended up earning its owner £11,000.
