Police have made nine arrests after a teenage boy was injured with a machete during a fight in Nottingham city centre.

Officers were called to reports of a confrontation between two groups of males in Glasshouse Street at 19:36 GMT on Wednesday.

Nottinghamshire Police said the altercation was witnessed by members of the public, and the boy's injuries were currently not believed to be life-threatening or life-altering.

Four 15-year-old boys, a 20-year-old man, a 16-year-old boy, and three girls - 14, 16 and 17 - have been arrested on suspicion of offences including affray and robbery.

All are currently in police custody.

Ch Supt Nick Waldram said: "This behaviour is abhorrent and has absolutely no place in our city centre. It also took place in view of members of the public.

"Thankfully the victim only received minor injuries, which could have been much worse.

"I hope the public takes some reassurance in our quick response to this incident where we now have nine people in our custody.

"Our investigation into why this happened is under way, but early indications suggest that most of the suspects are known to each other."
