Two BT offices in Lancashire are set to close and staff relocated to other sites, with almost 700 workers understood to be affected by the move.

The Telephone Exchange on Jubilee Street, Blackburn, and the contact centre in Accrington are to shut and staff likely to be moved to Warrington in Cheshire or face redundancy, the telecommunications company said.

A BT Group spokesman said the changes were part of its modernisation programme which would allow it to invest in spaces that better supported future ways of working.

He added the company was working closely with affected colleagues and believed many were within reasonable travel distance to the new site.

BT Group said it would support workers who lived beyond reasonable travel to an alternative location to review their options, which could include redundancy.
