A man and a woman have been arrested on suspicion of drug offences after police stopped a car in Tamworth.

Officers said they found heroin and crack cocaine in the vehicle, along with cash and several phones.

The driver, a 31-year-old man, and his passenger, a 24-year-old woman - both from Tamworth - were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

The man was also arrested on suspicion of possessing a class B drug, a bladed article and criminal property, as well as driving while disqualified, while the woman was suspected of possession with intent to supply class A drugs.

Police had first spotted the car being driven "suspiciously" in the Amington area at around 13:00 GMT on Tuesday, before stopping it on Boundary Drive.

A later search of an address in the Stoneydelph area led to the recovery of more crack cocaine, cannabis, drug paraphernalia and a large knife, officers said.

The suspects remain in custody while inquiries continue.
