Suffolk MP's declarations investigated again
Vikki Irwin/BBCThe Labour MP for Bury St Edmunds is being investigated by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards for a second time over his declarations.
Peter Prinsley MP says this investigation relates to "a declaration of interests during a select committee meeting" and does not "relate to property matters, as reported elsewhere".
Prinsley had previously been investigated by the commissioner, which reported its findings in full in August.
That investigation found he had breached the rules "inadvertently" by not declaring, within the correct 28-day timeframe, that he went on a trip to Israel in May 2025, funded by the Labour Friends of Israel.
The second investigation was started on Monday and details of it were published on the commissioner's website, which stated the nature of the allegation was about a "declaration of interest".
Prinsley told the BBC this investigation was about a declaration of interest for the Home Affairs Select Committee, of which he is a member.
"The committee was investigating the matter of the Aston Villa football match when Maccabi Tel Aviv fans were banned from coming," he said.
"At the beginning of the inquiry, we were asked to declare any interest and I declared that I was a Jewish MP, which I thought was a sufficient declaration of interest.
"It turned out that what I ought to have declared was that I had previously been on a visit to Israel with an organisation called Labour Friends of Israel."
He went on to say he understood this type of investigation "was something that goes with being in Parliament".
"I thought I had done the right thing, but it turns out that this is now the subject of an investigation and we'll just have to wait and see what the commissioner has to say about it," he added.
