Bury Park Community Centre will receive a complete ground-floor redesign

Two community centres in Luton will be mordernised in a £3.7m refurbishment.

Both Lewsey Community Centre and Bury Park Community Centre will be given redesigned entrances as part of the upgrade funded by Luton Council's capital expenditure program.

Lewsey will be partially closed from 15 February with the improvements expected to be completed by autumn at the latest.

Meanwhile the Bury Park site will close fully at some point in the summer for nine months.

Lewsey Community Centre will have three new classrooms and a fully refurbished kitchen as part of the upgrade.

At Bury Park Community Centre there will be a complete ground-floor redesign, including a new fitted kitchen and meeting facilities.

Council leader Hazel Simmons said: "Our community centres are more important than ever, and this investment reflects their vital role in bringing people together in their communities and neighbourhoods across Luton.

"While we recognise there will be some temporary disruption, the long-term benefits for residents and community groups will be substantial."
