The construction firm behind Luton Town's new stadium said it has begun piling work, which will take about 26 months to complete.

Martin Maloney, director of Capital Sky, told Luton Town Supporters' Trust that, where possible, local companies would do the majority of the work on Power Court Stadium under the supervision of construction partners Limak.

Piling involves driving deep foundations into the ground to support large structures.

After the piling has been completed, "concrete superstructures" will be put up in stages, starting with the north side.

It had previously been stated that the plan was to complete work on the 25,000-seater venue by the start of the 2028/29 season.

Part of the work on the project has involved re-routing the River Lea.

Maloney said that the last 18 months had involved "non-stop groundwork", with more ongoing.

He explained: "We have a main sewer which serves 10,000 homes to move – more complex, maybe, than expected as we were again given inaccurate information, always a problem with underground work on an old site."

More than 100 people have been working on the site for the last 18 months, with Maloney expecting that number to rise to 300 in 2026.

The director added: "We're not bringing in people from all around the UK and beyond. We're employing people from the Luton area.

"And it's not just for the short term. We've taken on seven apprentices and trainees this year, and we'll be taking on more."
