Police have asked the public to get in contact if they have any information

Sussex Police has appealed for information after a man in his 30s was raped in Lewes.

The force said the incident occurred in the vicinity of Brook Street, near Pells Pool, between 22:00 on Christmas Eve and 03:00 GMT on Christmas Day.

There will be a heightened police presence in the East Sussex town while officers investigate what happened, it added.

Det Insp Gavin Patch said the public could play a "vital role" in helping police build a clearer picture of events.

He continued: "Were you in Lewes on Christmas Eve night and did you see anything suspicious? Do you have any footage from the area, or any information that could assist.

"If you think you can help in any way, it is important that you contact police."

The victim is receiving support from specialist officers and care professionals as inquiries progress, the force said.
