A driver has been arrested after a pedestrian was left seriously injured when he was hit by a car.

Lancashire Police said the man, in his 70s, was taken to hospital in a critical condition after being struck by a Ford Kuga on Cross Street, Nelson, just after 14:00 GMT on Saturday.

The female driver was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and driving whilst unfit through drink or drugs, the force said.

Police have appealed for any witnesses as well as dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone footage.
