Several homes were evacuated in Birmingham this afternoon after police uncovered "a number of suspicious items" at an address in Northfield.

A cordon was put in place, which saw road closures near Hollymoor Way, where the property was located.

Army explosives experts were also called in as a precaution, West Midlands Police said.

The force has since confirmed the cordon has been removed.

At the time of the evacuation, a spokesperson said: "As a precaution, several homes have been evacuated while searches take place."
