New exhibition celebrates the 'Roaring 20s'
Staffordshire County CouncilA new interactive exhibition in Staffordshire will explore what life was like in the so-called "Roaring 20s" a century ago.
Twenties Takeover will be at the Staffordshire History Centre until 9 May, and looks at many different aspects of the decade, from the everyday to the glamorous.
Among the items on display are a Georgette evening dress, bought by Eccleshall's Hudson family, a chemist's sample case with unopened 20s medicines, and a gramophone.
"There's also the chance to learn the steps to the Charleston dance in an interactive display and strike a pose in the selfie station," said Hayley Coles, cabinet member for communities and culture at Staffordshire County Council.
Artwork by Stafford oil painter Mabel Layng, which shows life in the years following World War One, will also be shown.
The 1920s are known for glitz, glamour, jazz and modernisation, but it was also a post-war era and when many people had been wiped out by a flu pandemic.
"This latest exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore life during the iconic 1920s," added Coles.
"There's lots to see, including some stunning fashion items that made the decade so memorable."
The history centre is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 to 16:00 GMT.
