A church in the south of Scotland which is more than 225 years old looks set to be converted into a three-bedroom home.

Kirkpatrick Juxta Parish Church is located about one mile (1.6km) south of the village of Beattock.

The building - which is surrounded by a graveyard - dates back to the late 1790s when it was constructed on the site of earlier medieval and 17th Century sanctuaries.

The category B-listed property was put up for sale by the Church of Scotland last year and the new owners have now lodged plans with Dumfries and Galloway Council to convert it into a house.

The property - and some surrounding land - went on the market in 2025 for offers over £110,000.

The new owners hope to turn it into a home for themselves.

A design statement said the aim was to achieve something which was "respectful of the unique history and detailing of the architecture" while creating rooms "appropriate for modern-day living".

It added that the building had undergone "many phases of occupation and architectural alterations dating back to the 18th Century".

It said that they hoped to reuse existing materials where possible in order to "respect the character of the existing building" while ensuring it "meets the needs of modern living".
