A new skatepark in Essex has been officially opened at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Maldon district councillors celebrated the unveiling at Promenade Park on Wednesday.

The local authority invested £911,000 in the project, which included redeveloping a skatepark at Burnham-on-Crouch and a new skatepark at the West Maldon Community Centre.

Kevin Lagan, the independent council chairman, said: "It will provide young people with a positive place to be active, develop new skills and make lasting friendships."

He said residents were involved in "shaping" the facilities.

A spokesperson said the investment included a £60,000 contribution from the police, fire and crime commissioner's office, and Section 106 contributions from developers.
