Tributes paid to 18-year-old killed in car crash
HandoutA homeowner has spoken of his shock after a car crashed into his garden and overturned, claiming the life of the 18-year-old driver.
Kevin Jackson and his family were in bed asleep at their home in Baildon, West Yorkshire when he was awoken by a "loud bang" in the early hours of Saturday.
He called for an ambulance after finding the grey Ford Fiesta overturned with the driver, Sidney Brook, and a 17-year-old female passenger still inside the car. Mr Brook was pronounced dead at the scene. The girl remains in hospital in a critical condition, police have said.
"It's a tragic loss of a young life," said Mr Jackson.
Mr Brook's family described him as "a beautiful son, brother, cousin, grandson, nephew and friend to many" in a tribute to him.
"A hard-working cheeky chappy, who was deeply loved by all who knew him," they added.
Flowers left at the scene of the crash also paid tribute to "Sid".
Steve Jones/BBC"You were a beautiful young man [...] I'll forever miss your happy presence," read one.
Another read: "Forever 18, forever loved. Taken far too soon. Rest in peace, darling boy."
A third described the young man as a "special soul" with "so much more life to live".
Police said the Fiesta may have been travelling in tandem with a white Suzuki Swift SZ3 just prior to the crash on West Lane.
Three 18-year-old men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the incident.
A 40-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and assisting an offender. All four have been released on bail.
Evidence of the crash was still visible on Mr Jackson's driveway.
"It's a sad event," he said.
"While we have got some mess to clear up, that's a secondary issue."
