Coastguards spent Christmas Day rescuing a dog that had fallen down a cliff.

As millions tucked into their festive meals at home, emergency teams were sent to Rousdon, Devon, where the pet had plunged 66ft (20m).

A lifeboat crew from Lyme Regis, Dorset, found the animal and gave instructions to coastguard colleagues. Teams from Lyme Regis and Beer in Devon were winched down to the dog.

It had been on a lead but broke away while being walked along the coast, said the workers who reunited the pet with its owner.
