Work begins on Monday on a project to upgrade over 1,700 metres (5,577ft) of gas pipes in a town.

Wales & West Utilities will spend more than four months in Minchinhampton, Gloucestershire with traffic management measures in place when required.

These will include a road closure on Dr Brown's Road from 12 January to 20 February.

Wales & West Utilities' Mick Gallavin, who is managing this gas pipe upgrade work, said: "We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future."

The gas upgrade project in Minchinhampton is scheduled to start on 5 January and is due to be completed by the end of May.

'Essential' work

Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Gloucestershire County Council to plan the work and organise traffic measures.

Gallavin added: "Whether it's heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

"This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future."
