Police have asked dog owners to keep their pets under control around livestock

Police in the Highlands say they have seen an increase in incidents of dogs worrying livestock in recent months.

Police Scotland said it had led to some dog owners being prosecuted.

With the lambing season approaching the force has asked people to act responsibly and keep dogs under control when near fields containing any kind of livestock.

Pregnant ewes can miscarry if they are chased and uncontrolled dogs can also separate lambs from their mothers.

Police Scotland has information on livestock attacks on its website.
