Trains suspended after high waves hit tracks

Footage shows waves hitting the train tracks near Saltcoats

A number of train services in Ayrshire were suspended earlier after stormy conditions caused waves to "overtop" sea wall defences.

Scotrail confirmed that services to Largs and Ardrossan would start and terminate at Kilwinning.

Passengers travelling to Ayr can use Glasgow Central–Ayr services for stations up to Kilwinning, while alternative routes to Paisley Gilmour Street are available via Glasgow Central–Gourock and Wemyss Bay services.

Footage from Saltcoats station shows large waves crashing against the sea wall and onto the train tracks.
