Four bowlers from Dumfries are heading to Cyprus to represent their country in a global competition.

The Atlantic Senior Fours will see 20 nations involved, including all four corners of the UK.

The men from Marchmount Bowling Club will be up against teams from the USA, Australia and a number of countries from across Africa such as Namibia, Botswana and Zimbabwe.

The event is being held at a luxury resort in Paphos next month.

Colin Peacock, Bobby Jess, Steven Lowther will be with club president, Alan Glendinning.

He said it was "great to represent your country" which he said was a first for him but some of the others had played internationally before.

"The competition will be stiff," he added.

"These are people who've been chosen to represent their country so we're talking about winners of national competitions.

"OK we're over 55 but that doesn't mean it's any the less competitive."

Scotland also has a women's team going to the tournament for over 55s which has more than 200 competitors taking part.

Between the 1 December and 12 December, gents and ladies will play their own competitions and there will be a third mixed tournament with a cup, plate and bowl up for grabs.

The Atlantic Senior Fours will be available to view via live stream.
