A 63-year-old man was charged with dangerous driving

Police officers detected a van travelling at 110mph on the A9 during patrols of roads in the Highlands and islands last weekend.

A spokesperson said the incident happened near Alvie, south of Aviemore, and a 63-year-old man was charged with dangerous driving.

Officers also arrested eight men on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs in separate incidents.

They included a 45-year-old man who was found to be six times over the drink drive limit in Inverness.

A number of other offences were detected including children and adults not wearing seatbelts and drivers using mobile phones.
