Theatre to close temporarily for major upgrades
Getty ImagesA Surrey landmark will be closed temporarily in order for major restoration works to take place.
Mole Valley District Council (MVDC) says the upgrades to Dorking Halls are due to take place between 19 April and early December.
A spokesperson for the local authority said the works include replacing outdated mechanical and electrical systems, upgrading ventilation, and installing new stage engineering, lighting infrastructure and solar panels.
Nick Wright, cabinet member for leisure and community assets said: "Dorking Halls is a much‑loved venue and these upgrades and refurbishments will ensure it can continue serving our community for decades to come."
"I know many of us will miss the films, shows and events that the Halls usually offer over the summer, but we are committed to keeping cultural activity thriving throughout these phase two works," Wright said.
He says before the closure of the venue scheduled events include Henning Wehn, Ben Fogle, 100 years of Big Band, The Drifters, our Easter Panto (The Little Mermaid) and the Leith Hill Music Festival.
Wright said the halls would reopen in time for the 2026 panto performances, due to take place between 18 and 30 December.
